Dorothy & The Clown

I met and worked with a new photographer who recently moved to my area from the east coast.  Our photo shoot was very last minute, nothing really planned out, and I had the best time ever!  I amazingly ended up with a stylist when I almost didn’t get a chaperon, things could have been very different.  So this is how it all played out lol…

A friend, Nolan Kubota, had a skirt I wanted to use for my Dorothy look - the Dorothy look was the only look I had time to throw together.  When I asked to borrow the skirt, he offered other things I could use too, so we spent the evening before the shoot going through his closet (drag queen) - man I was in heaven!  I finally picked out one more look, well I should say he did.  I was just so overwhelmed with all the ideas that came to me when going through his closet, I gave him the opportunity to create my second look.  I figured with only an hour to shoot I wouldn’t have time for much more than two looks.  As we were going over these looks he began to advise me on some makeup ideas to enhance the images.  At some point I finally asked him if he would be interested in coming to the shoot with me.  Once he agreed, seeming very interested in the opportunity, I then took it a step further and asked if he would be my stylist.  It could not have worked out better!  If anybody is looking for a stylist, get in touch with Nolan, he was great to work with!

My original two looks were Dorothy Gale with my dog as Toto and a clown-like character with a miniature top hat.  I had some ideas for posing as Dorothy and those images came out great.  I was kinda shooting from the hip for the clown, my stylist Nolan was looking forward to seeing my ‘improv’.  I just goofed around an had fun with it.  I felt so expressive and the images came out amazing, definitely something different from what I have done.   The photographer was enjoying it so much we kept going, past the allotted hour and added two more looks.  He kept saying, “It’s like Im shooting different people” - man was that a compliment!  Thats the best way to get more work as a model, by having different looks, changing who you appear to be (not just visually, but in attitude too)  Believe it or not, your attitude does show through in the picture - if you are uncomfortable it is evident in the picture.  Being a successful model is all about being comfortable in your skin.
